The Town of adams receives a copy of the declaration of independence

The Town of Adams copy of the Declaration of Independence will be on display at the 250th Celebration in Adams at the Greylock Glen Center on July 18th from 11am to 3pm. Free shuttles from the Adams Visitors Center will be available. It's permanent home will be in the G.A.R. Memorial Hall of the Adams Free Library.
Ezekiel Russell Declaration of Independence
- Revolution 250 has moved forward for the completion of the reprinting of the “official” Ezekiel Russell Declaration of Independence as printed in Salem in July of 1776. This document is around a 15.5 by 20.5-inch replica, using a historically accurate press on a linen/cotton paper that feels like the original copies would have in 1776.
- As with the Declaration 250 years ago the intention is to distribute a copy to every town in Massachusetts. Massachusetts is the only state that did this in 1776, the only state that asked every minister to read it from the pulpit in every parish, the only state that asked every town clerk to handwrite the text into the Town’s Record Books. https://www.revolution250.org/declarations-in-massachusetts-towns/
- In keeping with that tradition, we are the only state in the United States that is trying to distribute an authentically printed (on a reproduction “Franklin-style” printing press) Declaration of Independence to all 351 cities and towns.
- We hope that towns will choose to keep this copy in a safe place so that each and every year it can be utilized at commemorations of our nation’s founding moment.
In my capacity as Senate Chair of the Special Commission on the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution, I am pleased to offer an opportunity for legislators leading into the Fourth of July holiday next week.
In partnership with the nonprofit Revolution 250, 351 copies of the Declaration of Independence have been printed to be given to all the cities and towns within the Commonwealth. We are offering an opportunity for you to deliver a copy of the Declaration to your municipality’s mayor, clerk, selectboard, or other official entity.
